SDHC card Raid idea for cheap solid state drive

Why are solid state drives SO expensive? Like $1300 for the 64GB SSD add-on for the Apple Air. I can easily get an 8GB SDHC card for $33 right now. Why don't manufacturers make an adapter in a 1.8 inch hard drive form factor that holds X number of SDHC cards? Using some type of RAID scheme, the laptop or whatever would see the device as a single drive.

Seems like you could easily fit 8 SDHC cards in the space of an 1.8″ hard drive with space left over for circuitry. The SDHC cards would only be $264 (8 x $33)! As flash memory gets cheaper, you could just replace the SDHC cards with higher capacity.
