I feel like I’m in a Harry Potter movie!

Ambient-mixer.com has done something incredible: They have recreated the ambient sounds from Harry Potter movies. Now you can feel like you are in the Great Hall, the Gryffindor Common Room or any of the other houses. Wanna ride the Hogwarts Express? The sounds are there. It’s pretty cool how the sounds are an actual mix of multiple sounds that you can actually control individually.

There’s a bunch of non-HP movie mixes too like Sherlock’s apartment (aka 221b Baker Street) and Loki’s Chambers. Of course there are Star Wars and Game of Thrones sounds. The site has tons of other mixes grouped into categories like At Home, Cats, Environmental, Games, Holidays, Human, Movies and Series, Music, Nature, etc. Something for everyone.

This stuff is great for when you are at work and just need some background noise. The sounds loop so they can eventually get monotonous, but you can just click off to another place haha! Check it out! The only bummer is that the site is Flash-based so you’ll have to visit on a computer :-(

Fix a stuck broken-off Apple Lightning cable connector tip!

Somehow the Lightning cable connector tip snapped off inside my girlfriend’s iPad. At first, it seemed impossible to get the broken piece out of the slot since there is nothing to grab onto and the opening is terribly small.

A Google search came up with several possible solutions, some of which suggested super-gluing the broken piece to a cut ziptie or wires. I tried the ziptie+glue, but just couldn’t get a strong enough bond to yank the piece out. (On a side note, I didn’t have the same issue gluing my fingers together! ;-) Of course, you also have to be very careful not to get the glue elsewhere and ruin the connector. I do not recommend using glue. What worked for me involved something much more simple: a baby diaper safety pin. Read more

Notezilla: A monster of a Post-it note application

I rely a lot on Evernote for long-term note-taking. I also use Anylist for things like shopping and other checklists. The problem with both of these is I have to remember to check them. I’ve also tried time-based reminder apps on my phone, but there are a lot of important things on my To-Do list that aren’t due at a specific time.

For personal stuff, I would usually resort to sending myself emails and keep them in my Inbox until completed. This, however, works against my obsessive nature of keeping my Inbox clean when items linger undone. At work, I use trusty old Post-it notes. I just knew there had to be a digital equivalent that met the following criteria:

  1. Put a simple Post-it-like text window on my computer desktop;
  2. Supported Windows and iOS; and
  3. Synced between platforms

Holiday trip to Cali!

Took two weeks off for Christmas and New Years. My gf was only able to take one week, but we made the most of it. We had the entire family gathered for Christmas: Mom and Dad, all five kids with significant others, and amazingly all 11 grandkids! It was a special evening for sure.

I hauled both my Nikon D750 and D7200 along with my 14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 70-200mm f/2.8 and Sigma 150-600mm. It all fit in my Gura Gear Kiboko 22L+. I even got my Surface Pro 3 as well as my Arc Touch mouse, 2TB portable drive, chargers, cables, Bluetooth speaker, adapters, etc. in there! No problem fitting it under the seat in front of me on the plane. That bag is just amazing. Here are some shots of the interior. Read more
